Aftercare

After your appointment, it’s time to start healing your new tattoo. Below is my full aftercare procedure.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a medical professional and this aftercare does not replace the recommendations or instructions of your own physician or medical professional. If you are concerned about how your tattoo is healing, I recommend seeking out the advice of your primary care physician or other medical professional.

Day 0 (tattoo day)

-keep wrap on for 3-4 hours

-remove wrap

-wash the tattoo **

-after it has air dried completely, wrap it before you go to bed

Day 1 & 2 “clean and dry”

-when you wake up, take off the wrap and wash it very thoroughly

-wear loose fitting clothing so the tattoo will not stick to the fabric

-wash the tattoo 5 to 6 times a day

-do NOT apply moisturizer/ointment

Day 3-7 “let it breathe!”

-wash your tattoo 3 or 4 times a day

-once you’ve dried the tattoo, place a small amount of moisturizer in your hand and spread it on the tattoo thoroughly

-blot excess moisturizer off the tattoo after every application

-apply moisturizer 2 or 3 times a day (as needed)

The tattoo should look moisturized, but never have a “shine” to it

Allow all flakes to come off naturally; do not pick at your tattoo

Day 8-Healed “Home Stretch!”

-switch to non-scented mild lotion from here on out

-apply the lotion whenever the tattoo seems dry

 ** Washing procedure

-wash your hands before handling the tattoo

-thoroughly wash the tattoo, being sure to remove ALL plasma, blood, and excess pigment

-once completely cleaned, pat completely dry with paper towels
